Hair System & Wig FAQ

Question 1

What is a hair system?

Accepted Answer

A hair system is a non-surgical hair replacement solution — a custom or stock piece made from real human hair or high-quality synthetic fiber attached to a thin, breathable base. It sits directly on the scalp and is designed to blend seamlessly with your existing hair, giving you a completely natural look and feel.

Question 2

What are the differences between a custom and a stock hair system?

Accepted Answer

Stock hair systems are pre-made in standard sizes, densities, and colors — they're ready to wear sooner and are generally more affordable. Custom hair systems are built to your exact measurements, hair color, density, and base design. Custom pieces offer a more precise fit and a wider range of personalization options, but they take longer to produce. Our technicians can help you decide which is right for your lifestyle and budget.

Question 3

What customization options are available?

Accepted Answer

The options are virtually unlimited. Base material (lace, skin, mono, hybrid), hair type (human or synthetic), hair density, wave pattern, color, highlight placement, hairline design, and attachment method can all be tailored to you. Our professionally trained technicians work with each client individually to design a piece that matches your natural hair and fits your daily routine.

Question 4

How long does it take to receive a hair system?

Accepted Answer

Stock systems are typically available within a few days to a couple of weeks depending on inventory. Custom orders generally take 6 to 12 weeks from the time measurements and specifications are finalized. We'll keep you updated throughout the process and let you know as soon as your piece is ready.

Question 5

Are hair systems affordable?

Accepted Answer

Hair systems are available at a wide range of price points. Stock pieces offer an accessible entry point, while custom systems represent a longer-term investment in a piece built specifically for you. When you factor in the confidence, comfort, and quality of life a well-fitted system provides, most clients find the value exceptional. We're happy to walk you through options that fit your budget.

Question 6

How often does a hair system need to be replaced?

Accepted Answer

There's no single answer — it depends entirely on how well the piece is cared for. A system that is cleaned regularly, stored properly, and serviced by a professional can last significantly longer than one that isn't. Lifestyle factors like swimming, heat styling frequency, and attachment method also play a role. We'll give you a realistic expectation based on your specific piece and how you plan to wear it.

Question 7

Will a hair system look natural?

Accepted Answer

Yes — when properly fitted and styled by a trained technician, a hair system is virtually undetectable. The hairline, density, and color are matched to your natural hair, and the base is designed to sit flush against the scalp. Most people around you will simply notice that your hair looks great.

Question 8

Can I be active while wearing a hair system?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Hair systems are designed for everyday life. You can exercise, swim, and go about your normal routine. The attachment method we recommend will be matched to your activity level so you can move with confidence. We'll also advise you on any extra care steps for high-activity days.

Question 9

How is a hair system attached?

Accepted Answer

There are several attachment methods — medical-grade adhesive tape, liquid bonding adhesive, clips, or a combination. The right method depends on your skin type, lifestyle, how long you want to wear the piece between services, and personal preference. Our technicians will guide you to the best option for your situation.

Question 10

Do I need professional help to put it on and take it off?

Accepted Answer

For your first fitting and any major reattachments, yes — professional application ensures the best result and protects both your scalp and the piece. Many clients learn to manage day-to-day wear at home over time, and we'll teach you everything you need to know. We're always here for regular maintenance appointments as well.

Question 11

How do I care for my hair system at home?

Accepted Answer

Home care involves gentle washing with sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, careful detangling from ends to roots, and proper drying — either air-drying on a wig stand or low-heat blow-drying. Avoid sleeping in the piece unless it's designed for extended wear. We'll send you home with a personalized care routine and the right products for your specific base and hair type.

Question 12

How often should I wash my hair system?

Accepted Answer

For most wearers, washing every 1 to 2 weeks is sufficient — more frequently if you're very active or use a lot of styling products. Over-washing can shorten the life of the piece, so following the schedule we recommend for your specific system is important.

Question 13

Can I use heat styling tools on my hair system?

Accepted Answer

Human hair systems can generally tolerate heat styling at moderate temperatures, just like natural hair. Synthetic systems require heat-safe fibers to withstand any heat at all. Always use a heat protectant and keep tools at the recommended temperature for your piece. We'll let you know exactly what your system can handle.

Question 14

How should I store my hair system when I'm not wearing it?

Accepted Answer

Store your system on a wig stand or mannequin head to preserve its shape. Keep it away from direct sunlight, humidity, and heat. If you're traveling, a breathable bag or box works well. Proper storage between wears is one of the simplest things you can do to extend the life of your piece.

Question 15

How often should I come in for professional maintenance?

Accepted Answer

We recommend a professional service appointment every 4 to 6 weeks. This typically includes reattachment, a deep clean, conditioning treatment, and any styling adjustments. Regular maintenance keeps your system looking its best and gives us a chance to catch any wear before it becomes a problem.

Question 16

I've never worn a wig before. Where do I start?

Accepted Answer

Start with a consultation. We'll talk about your lifestyle, the look you want, and what level of maintenance you're comfortable with. From there we'll help you choose between human hair and synthetic, find the right cap construction for your head shape, and make sure the fit is comfortable before you leave. There's no pressure — we take as much time as you need.

Question 17

What's the difference between human hair and synthetic wigs?

Accepted Answer

Human hair wigs look and feel the most natural, can be heat-styled and colored, and tend to last longer with proper care. Synthetic wigs are more affordable, hold their style even after washing, and require less daily effort — but they can't tolerate heat unless specifically labeled as heat-friendly. The right choice depends on your budget, styling habits, and how much time you want to spend on upkeep.

Question 18

How do I know what size wig to get?

Accepted Answer

We measure your head during your consultation — circumference, front to nape, ear to ear, and temple to temple. Most wigs come in petite, average, and large cap sizes, and many have adjustable straps for a more precise fit. Getting the right size is essential for comfort and a natural appearance.

Question 19

Will the wig stay on securely?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Wigs can be secured with adjustable straps, wig grips, double-sided skin-safe tape (including the wig tape we sell in-store), or adhesive depending on your preference and how active you are. For everyday wear, most people find the built-in combs and adjustable band more than sufficient. We'll show you how to secure yours properly before you leave.

Question 20

How do I wash my wig?

Accepted Answer

Fill a basin with cool water and a small amount of wig-safe shampoo. Gently swish the wig — don't scrub or wring it. Rinse thoroughly, apply a light conditioner from mid-length to ends, rinse again, and gently press out excess water with a towel. Never twist or rub. Place on a wig stand to air-dry.

Question 21

How often should I wash my wig?

Accepted Answer

Every 6 to 8 wears is a good general guideline, though this varies based on how much you sweat, what products you use, and your environment. Washing too frequently can shorten the wig's lifespan, so less is often more.

Question 22

How do I detangle my wig without damaging it?

Accepted Answer

Always use a wide-tooth comb or a wig brush, and always start from the ends and work your way up to the roots — never pull from the top down. For stubborn tangles, a small amount of detangling spray helps. Be patient and gentle; rushing is the most common cause of fiber damage.

Question 23

How long will my wig last?

Accepted Answer

With proper care, a quality human hair wig can last a year or more. Synthetic wigs typically last 4 to 6 months with regular wear. The single biggest factor is how well you care for it — washing gently, storing correctly, and avoiding excessive heat will all extend its life considerably.

Question 24

Can I sleep in my wig?

Accepted Answer

It's generally not recommended. Sleeping in a wig causes friction that leads to tangling, matting, and premature wear. If you need to sleep in it occasionally, braid or loosely tie the hair and use a silk or satin pillowcase to minimize friction.
